Playground Activities

The Camp Winston Playground offers a fun, interactive, and exciting way for our campers to build new skills. The playground at camp allows our campers to discover how to relate to peers, how to take turns on playground equipment, appropriate playground games to play and how to deal with arguments that may arise when using the playground equipment. Our amazing staff members are trained in communication skills that help them to use camper lead approaches. This allows for problem-solving to be mainly done by the camper where they can find solutions on their own to the said problems, which cements the skills in their brains for future encounters.

The playground at camp is also used as a pivotal tool in the development of gross motor skills. Gross motor movements are movements of the large muscles of the arms, legs, and torso. These are movements that many of us take for granted but are very difficult to master for many of our campers. We can use the playground to assess shortcomings in the development of gross motor skills and develop targeted goals for each camper. This is an effective play-based form of skill building that incorporates fun and exercise.
